Techniques I Use

Not everyone is familiar with the techniques that I use in my practice. In fact, the very names of them, Neuro Linguistic  Programming (NLP), Timeline Therapy/Creating Your Future (™), Hypnosis/Hypnotherapy, and Language and Behaviour (LAB) Profile analysis, can be a bit intimidating and perhaps a bit frightening. Some people may have heard negative things about these types of techniques. Some may believe that the people who use them are nothing more than “snake-oil” salesmen.

I would like to assure you that the techniques I use are proven and effective. The developers of these techniques drew heavily on leading edge research and work in many disciplines such as effective communications, cognitive behavioral science, neuro-science, psychology, and even computer science for their insights. The field of Neuro-Linguistic programming (NLP) and those of us who practice it continue to draw on the leading edge of these fields today to be able to bring the very latest ideas to bear on behalf of our clients.

It is true that there are some wildly exaggerated claims about what NLP and Hypnoisi can do for people. By the same token there are also wildly exaggerated claims by some medical professionals about what their treatments can do for people. It is also true that not everyone will respond to NLP or Hypnoisi techniques. Similarly, not every one responds positively to medical treatment. I suggest that you should judge the effectiveness of these techniques on the basis of what they actually do for you, not on the basis of what they don’t do for others. The techniques can not harm you, so if one doesn’t work it simply doesn’t work; nothing more or less.

Some people point out that it is difficult or impossible to explain or provide convincing scientific evidence of why NLP techniques actually work. This is absolutely true! But so what? If the techniques can not harm you and can be shown to be effective, do you really care if they can be explained or proven scientifically? Many techniques that were once considered less than scientific, for example acupuncture, are now accepted as quite legitimate. Even though the Chinese had used acupuncture successfully for a very long time, when it was first introduced into the West, the available scientific knowledge could not explain it satisfactorily. Scientific progress has since begun to be able to explain it. The same is true of NLP. Science, in particular neuro-science, is beginning to be able to explain in theory what we know works in practice! While knowing why something works is certainly important, what most of us want for our issues are results. NLP delivers results.

Some people claim that the results NLP techniques achieve are not real, but just in the clients’ minds. Again this is absolutely true. Again, so what? If the techniques work and provide you with the relief or change you want, do you care if it is “all in your mind?” More importantly, the claim that it is all in your mind misses the most fundamental and important aspect of NLP. It is your mind, your unconscious mind, that is responsible for making and sustaining the profound, and lasting changes that NLP techniques offer! Therefore, if they work for you, they are quite real! Again scientific progress in neuro-science is beginning to be able to explain the nature and functioning of the unconscious mind that psychology has postulated and hinted at and NLP practitioners knew worked. Again scientific knowledge and theory is catching up with actual practices. And again, NLP delivers results.

I am innately curious about why things work and the theory behind or about them. However, as an NLP practitioner, I am completely focused on one thing – results for my clients. Understanding how things work, and not becoming side tracked by why, ensures that I can keep my focus and help my clients achieve the results they want. NLP techniques are all about the HOW. They are termed content independent. In other words why you have a problem or issue is not relevant to using NLP to help you resolve it. This does not mean the why is not important – especially to you. However, no one will ever be able to change why you have a problem. But, if you know how you have a problem, how you experience the problem, how you react to situations, and how you behave can be determined, then changes can be made that will have profound and long lasting results for you. This is what I focus on when using NLP techniques with my clients.

I would welcome any further questions you might have so that I can help you understand how I can help you specifically.
